On 9-9-2015, the Union Cabinet gave its approval on the constitution of 21st Law Commission of India for a period of three years w.e.f. 1-9-2015 to 31-8-2018. The tenure of the 20th Law Commission was upto 31-8-2015. The objective behind the constitution of the Law Commission is to undertake research in law and review the existing laws in India for making reforms therein and enact new legislation’s. The Law Commission shall undertake studies and research for bringing reforms in the justice delivery systems for elimination of delay in procedures, speedy disposal of cases, reduction in cost of litigation etc. Its main functions also includes identification of laws which are no longer relevant and recommend for the repeal of obsolete and unnecessary enactments; and  suggest enactment of new legislations to attain the objectives set out in the Preamble of the Constitution etc.
