The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Bill, 2015 has been passed by Rajya Sabha on December 22, 2015. The new Bill will replace the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000.
The new Bill will ensure that 16-year-olds involved in heinous crimes shall be prosecuted as adults. Also, anyone between the age of 16-18 who commits a less serious offence may be tried as an adult if he is apprehended after he attains the age of 21.
