Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA has organised a Seminar on ‘Business and Human Rights’ on November 07, 2016 by Mr. Kevin Smith at Moot Court Hall, Symbiosis Law School, NOIDA. The timings are 12:30pm – 02:00pm.
Seminar outline: The Seminar will consist of three parts:
1. A brief history and background to the “Three Pillar Framework” and the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights;
2. A discussion of the Three Pillars and the Guiding Principles, including a focus on current trends in the area and the obligation to provide remedy and a discussion of relevant case studies; and
3. An argument for the “business case” for Business and Human Rights, and an explanation of why every commercial lawyer ought to know about this.
About the Resource Person: Mr. Kevin Smith recently left Clifford Chance LLP’s litigation group, after four years practising in London. Alongside a general commercial litigation practice, Kevin specialised in Public International Law, and advised a range of multinational companies on Business and Human Rights issues. He has presented internationally on this subject, including leading training on behalf of the charity Advocates for International Development in India and Kenya in 2016.
In 2017, Mr. Kevin will join Farris, Vaughn, Wills & Murphy LLP in his hometown of Vancouver, Canada, where his practice will include constitutional and public law matters, including in the areas of human rights, aboriginal, and environmental law. Mr. Kevin completed his undergraduate degree at Princeton University, and his law degree at Oxford.
