The 6th RGNUL National Moot Court Competition commenced with the inaugural session in the premises of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Punjab. Prof. (Dr.) Paramjit S. Jaswal, Vice Chancellor, RGNUL, Prof (Dr.) G.I.S. Sandhu, Registrar RGNUL, Dr. Shilpa Jain, Faculty Coordinator; Ishfaq Ahmed, Representative from Eastern Book Company, Knowledge Partner and Faculty members of RGNUL were present on the occasion. Prof. (Dr.) Paramjit S. Jaswal welcomed the participants to the competition.
In his address, Prof. Jaswal apprised mooters about the basic skills related to the competition. He said, “Mooting allows students to express themselves professionally”. Prof. Jaswal further explained that mooting was different from debating and declaiming as it was related to the legal facts. He cited examples to highlight on the strengths and strategies that will enable the participants to win the arguments. Prof. (Dr.) Jaswal advised the students to argue well following the dictum, “Honesty is the best policy”.
Prof. (Dr.) G.I.S. Sandhu, in his speech said that moot court competition provided students a platform to test their skills of interpretation of law and their legal acumen. After inaugural, an academic session for the participants on the use of online research tool, SCC Online, was taken by Ishfaq Ahmed.
