The team comprising of Prateek Mago, Pranav Rathore and Jay Nene from Institute of Law Nirma University, Ahmedabad was adjudged as the 7th best team in the Asia-Pacific region, which is a significant achievement given that there were 47 teams which applied for the competition and only 20 qualified for the Regional Finals at the Asia-Pacific Regional Final Rounds of the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition 2017, held at Adelaide, Australia from 18-21 April, 2017.
It is pertinent to note that its the first time, any team from this institute has qualified through a national selection round for the international rounds. The team thereafter participated in the ISRO National Funding Rounds for the Manfred Lachs Space Law Moot Court Competition 2017 held at NLSIU. They were up against CNLU and ILS Pune in their preliminary rounds and performed immensely well, but couldn’t make it to the semifinals by margin of 1 mark.
In the Asia Pacific Regional Finals, they had 4 preliminary rounds against Murdoch University, Perth, Australia; Universitas Padjadjaran, Indonesia; NLSIU and a Chinese University. The team showed exemplary skills and was applauded by the judges for brilliant research and legal analysis, due to which the team managed to outplay all the foreign universities that they faced, and even gave a commendable fight to NLSIU.
The team consisting of Ridhvick Dosi, Siddharth Chechani Akash Deep Gupta and Divyansh Tiwari of semester 6 from Institute of Law Nirma University, Ahmedabad were declared in Top 5 to represent India in the International rounds at the Second Prof. N.R. Madhava Menon SAARC International Mooting Competition. There were 26 teams including Nalsar, NLS banglore, NUJS, NLIU, Jindal, Amity, and several others. The competition was judge?d? by? a? panel of judges comprising of academicians, mooters and advocates. The team also won the Second-best memorial award. In the International Round, the team was declared as the quarter finalist.
