The second edition of RML’s National Hindi Debate Competition was successfully held in Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University on 16th & 17th September 2017. The competition witnessed participation of fifteen teams from Chanakya National Law University, Banaras Hindu University, Amity University, Kamla Nehru Institute of Technology, Allahabad University, Indraprastha University, Jamia Milia Islamia, and Delhi University.
The cross team from IP and KNIT, comprising Samman Vardhan and Kunwar Hari Om have won the tournament; they were awarded a prize money of Rs. 30,000. The runners-up, Chandan Prakash and Aman Kumar from Jamia Milia Islamia were awarded Rs. 15,000. The winners and the runners-up were also given certificates and trophies.
The tournament employs a unique debating format: a motion is released twenty-four hours prior to a round, and each round involves five teams. Each team comprises two members; one member has to prepare for the motion and the other member has to argue against the motion. While the participants in this tournament also debated on conventional motions relating to politics, gender, and corruption, the motion for the finale was quite aptly set for a Hindi debate competition: Is the imposition of Hindi on non-Hindi speaking population justifiable?
