Book release: Lloyd law college takes immense pride in releasing two books during this event, which are ‘Rights of Indigenous people in SAARC’ , and ‘Magna Carta and Human rights’. We feel greatly blessed to have the opportunity of having Hon’ble Mr. Justice Kurian Joseph to release these two books. The volume rights of Indigenous people in SAARC edited by Prof. Dr. S. Sivakumar, Dr. Lisa P. Lukose and Mr. Akhilesh kumar khan, contains selected research papers presented in the second Prof. N.R. Madhava Menon SAARC LAW Mooting competition and law students’ conference. The volume contains 17 research papers penned by students of SAARC region highlighting the challenges faced by indigenous communities with detailed examination of existing constitutional and legal regime concerning the protection of rights of Indigenous communities.

The Guest of Honor, Justice Anil Kumar Sinha, Judge Supreme Court of Nepal, quoted Martin Luther King “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere…” He said that have to learn by doing, and have to carve our own path, without naming the media houses, he said that a few media trials in Nepal have had a very strong impact on the judiciary. The Inauguration ended with two book releases by Justice Kurian. The first, a compilation of articles by students, Rights of Indigenous People in SAARC, the first copy of which was given to Justice Anil Kumar Sinha, JudgeSupreme Court of Nepal and the second, Magna Carta and Human Rights: The Legacy of 800+ Years, Justice Buwaneke Ahuwihare, Judge Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, received the first copy of the book from Justice Kurian.

R.Venkataramani, Senior Adocate, Supreme court of India: He has been appearing for the state of Tamil Nadu as a special senior counsel for past many years and is also a special senior counsel for the state of Andhra Pradesh. “Prof. Dr.N.R.Madhava Menon is a very ambitious person” He continued by praising Dr. N.R. Madhava Menon, “The vision he had is far and wide” Also he added to his speech, “Each and every nation which are present here are important in their own way. And these kind of competitions are going to help you in every insight of legal education. Prof.N.R. Madhava Menon SAARC LAW mooting competition- India under the current prime minister is growing globally. Asia is going to occupy a significant leading space and it is going to reflect in the future of mankind. We’ve learnt cricket from Britishers and Australians and now we’ve outsmarted them. Similarly, we’ve learnt mooting from the British and now we’ve started to outsmart them. We’ve to learn governance through rule of law.” With these words of wisdom he encouraged all the participants.

Prof. Dr. S.Shiva Kumar: An introductory speech was given by him. Prof. Dr. S. Sivakumar is a professor at the Indian Law Institute, New Delhi. Also he is appointed as a full-time member of 21st Law commission of India in 2016. During his speech he made a special emphasis on ethics of legal schemes. And talked about research papers and the procedures of submission and gave the idea of books going to be released by Lloyd law college. Ending by congratulating all the students who made it till here and wishing them good luck.

10:20 : The Father of modern legal education in India, Padmashree, Professor Dr. N.R. Madhava Menon, addressed everyone with his words of wisdom. The architect of five year LL.B program greeted the notable judges, advocates and professors and talked about the current legal situations special licencing for matrimonial lawyers after which sir wished the participants good luck.

9:01 : In conjunction with the Mooting Competition, Lloyd Law College and Bar Council of Kerala M K Nambyar Academy for Continuing Legal Education (Kochi) are organizing a two day South Asian Colloquium on Ethics for Legal-Judicial Professions on 17-18 February 2018. Former Chief Justice of India Justice T S Thakur will give the presidential address and the Attorney General of India KK Venugopal will address the inaugural session of the colloquium. Hony. Director of M. K. N. Academy for Continuing Legal Education Padmashree Prof. N R Madhava Menon will give the welcome address and former Chief Justice of Sri Lanka Justice Mohan Pieris will deliver the key note address.
