A workshop was conducted by Center for Human Rights, NUALS as part of their flagship research initiative titled ‘Project Involve’ on 4th September 2018t National University of Advanced Legal Studies. The initiative is aimed at providing a platform for different stakeholders- academicians, Members of Legislative Assembly, Lawyers, NGOs – to find solutions to the issues involving human rights violations in Kerala through various activities such as research, surveys etc. The issues in focus include social assimilation of migrant labourers , beggary, Mental healthcare in Kerala etc. As many as 55 volunteers are divided into 4 teams each working on these issues.
This workshop was aimed at introducing the volunteers to Research Methodology and Data Analysis intended to be employed in the initiative. 4 students from each team elaborated on their respective research question, scope of the issue and methodology. The presentations invited active participation and comments from the attendees regarding the various nuances of conducting the research. Presentation by Mr. Rajesh K, Assistant Research Fellow at Integrated Rural Research Center covered aspects of research such as generation of research idea, identification of research problem, research questions, review of existing literature so as to guide the student volunteers. Advocate Ferha Azeez and Ms. Chinchu C also gave inputs to the plan of action.
Once the volunteers are acquainted with the modus operandi, the Center intends to conduct a survey, review workshops and finally a National Conference on Human Rights in Kerala. The Center is headed by Ms. Namitha, Assistant Professor at NUALS.
