Aadhaar Verdict | Aadhaar here to stay

Supreme Court: The Supreme Court has, by a majority of 4: 1, pronounced in favour of the validity of Aadhaar. The matter was being heard by a 5-Judge Constitution Bench comprising of CJ Dipak Misra and A.M. Khanwilkar, Dr D.Y. Chandrachud, A.K. Sikri and Ashok Bhushan, JJ.

The majority spoke through Justice Sikri and held the majority of provisions of the Aadhaar Act, 2016 to be Constitutional. However, few of the provisions of citing Aadhaar number for various government schemes have not stood the test before the Supreme Court. While Justice Chandrachud dissented from the majority judgment and was of the opinion that the Act is wholly unconstitutional.
