Supreme Court: Dismissing the PIL filed by lawyer Alakh Alok Srivastava seeking court monitored probe into Mirage Aircraft crash in Bengaluru on February 1 in which Squadron Leaders Sameer Abrol and Siddharth Negi lost their lives, bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Sanjiv Khanna asked:
“Do you know Mirage 2000 is of which generation?”
CJI noted that others are using 6th generation Mirage Aircraft while ours is of 3 or 3.5th generation. The Court, hence, said that it cannot order judicial inquiry into it as the aircraft was bound to crash.
The petitioner had contended that appropriate steps must be taken to ensure that such unfortunate incidents do not recur in future.
