Mr. Kumar Karan, 5th year student of SLS Noida received a Pre-Placement offer (PPO) from Link Legal India Law Services, New Delhi.
- Hi! Tell us something about yourself.
Hello, my name is Kumar Karan and I belong from Dhanbad, Jharkhand. I qualified for Symbiosis Noida’s BA LLB programme in 2015 (Batch: 2015-20). I have been enjoying every day of this journey since then. Getting into law was accidental for me; and what a beautiful accident it has been. I am often reminded of lines from the poetry by John Keats in his poem “The Road Not Taken”. The iconic lines from this famous poetry “… I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”, is how I too would sum up my experience as a law student and at the dawn of entering the legal profession. I have enjoyed every moment of my journey as law student and these five years have had major impacts in my life- both professional and personal. I always count myself as someone who is blessed to be surrounded by amazing people. I have made innumerable good memories, have had great teachers to learn from, experienced amazing leadership and obviously have substantially increased my knowledge and understanding of law.
If there’s something that I can do without getting tired is either listening music or playing my guitar. Both of these things are as much an integral part of my life as law has now become.
- Getting a Pre-Placement Offer from Link Legal is an achievement. How would you describe your feelings?
Well, surely first job is special and when it’s from as reputed as a law firm like Link Legal India Law Services, it’s definitely an achievement! Learning directly under the tutelage of Mr. Atul Sharma (Managing Partner), is itself an achievement for anyone in the legal profession and I have been blessed with this opportunity. I secured an assessment internship with the assistance of the Training and Placement Cell of the college. From the first day of my association with Link Legal India Law Services as an intern, till the day I received the PPO and an offer of continuation of my internship; every day I enter office, I remind myself that I have to give my best at this place. Hopefully I am fulfilling my promise to myself. I have enjoyed and am enjoying working at Link Legal India Law Services.
- Did you plan on getting a PPO from Link Legal or it just came as a surprise?
Since this began as an assessment internship, I knew I would require focused efforts to prove my candidature which is suitable for a position at Link Legal India Law Services. My major focus was that I perform to the best of my capabilities to secure a Pre-Placement Offer. I am thankful to my parents, friends and the almighty for giving me the support and courage throughout.
- What value do you think internships hold for a law student?
Undoubtedly, internships help a law student obtain getting practical knowledge of law and learn about their application. I have always believed that no matter whether the office you are interning is big or small, what would matter is how well you learn at that particular place. Every law student should take their internship seriously as internships don’t just help in enhancing your practical knowledge which will help you in the profession but also assist in building your overall personality. It will also help carving a niche for yourself where you see yourself working in a particular team, discharging your duties in the most competent manner.
- Could you give an advice to our readers on how to plan their internships so that it could turn into a PPO?
Although, Oscar Wilde says, “It is always a silly thing to give advice and giving good advice is fatal!”. However, I believe that advises are good when they are relevant to the person getting it. All I would advise aspiring law professionals is that you should believe in yourself, perform to the best of your capabilities, and you will definitely be rewarded for your efforts. One should always take each and every internship seriously, as it depends totally upon a candidate to convert an internship employer into a recruiter because if they are of the opinion that you would be an asset for them they will surely offer you an opportunity to work with them as an employee rather as an intern (of course when the right time comes). If they are of the opinion that you would be an asset for them, they surely will not let you go from their office.
- Lastly, where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
All I see now is excelling professionally and enhancing my knowledge and understanding of law and its application.
