On March 8, 2021, the Central Government makes the Central Motor Vehicles (Fourth Amendment) Rules, 2021 to further to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
Key points discussed in the Rules are:
- compatibility of vehicle to level of ethanol blend of E20 or E85 or E100 shall be defined by the vehicle manufacturer and the same shall be displayed on vehicle by putting a clearly visible sticker;
- compatibility of vehicle to level of ethanol blend of ED95 shall be defined by the vehicle manufacturer and the same shall be displayed on vehicle by putting a clearly visible sticker.
- CNG/Bio-CNG/HCNG vehicles shall meet all the safety requirements as per AIS 24 and AIS 28 (Revision 1), as applicable;
- Specification for commercial ethanol fuel (E20) shall be as per IS 17021: 2018;
- Specification for commercial Hydrogen Enriched Compressed Natural Gas (HCNG) shall be as per IS 17314: 2019.
