On September 10, 2021, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has notified the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) First Amendment Regulations, 2021. The Regulation comes into force on September 10, 2021 and all food business operator shall comply with all the provisions of these regulations by November 17, 2021.

 

The Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) First Amendment Regulations, 2021 amends the Food Safety and Standards (Labelling and Display) Regulations, 2020 in following manner:

  • In regulation 7, under sub-regulation (1), the following proviso shall be inserted, namely: –

“Provided that in case of food package having surface area upto 30 cm2 containing caloric or non-caloric sweetener or mixture thereof, the size of numerals and letters for the declarations or specific requirements specified in Schedule -II shall not be less than 1mm based on the letter l.”

  • Each and every package containing an admixture of edible oils must carry a label declaration in bold capital letter immediately below its brand name or trade name on the front of pack which shall contain its name, nature of edible oil and percentage by weight.
  • Package must carry a declaration that it should not be sold loose.
