The Government of United Kingdom has passed the Statutory Sick Pay (Medical Evidence) Regulations 2021 on December 17, 2021.

The Regulations provide that an employee shall not be required to provide medical information in respect of the first 28 days of absence from work.

Under current rules, workers who are unwell had to show their evidence for being sick after seven days to receive statutory sick pay or benefit payments. Now, this has being relaxed to 28 days i.e., one won’t need proof until almost a month after you fall ill.

The Regulations shall be effective from December 17, 2021.
