On 25.02.2022, the Supreme Court has invited applications seeking conferment of designation of Senior Advocates from retired Chief Justices/ Judges of High Courts and Advocates-on-Record / Advocates in terms of the Supreme Court Guidelines to Regulate Conferment of Designation of Senior Advocates, 2018.
The said guidelines were framed in compliance of the directions in Indira Jaising vs. Supreme Court of India through Secretary General, (2017) 9 SCC 766, wherein the validity of S. 16 Advocates Act, 1961, was upheld and uniform guidelines were prescribed for Supreme Court and all High Courts as to procedure for designation of Senior Advocates.
In a breather to the retired Chief Justices/ Judges of High Courts and Advocates-on-Record/Advocates whose earlier applications were not considered favourably, the notice clarifies that all such persons are eligible to apply afresh. Further, the retired Chief Justices/Judges of High Courts and Advocates-on-Record/Advocates who have submitted applications prior to the date of publication of this Notice, may apply afresh.
All the applications are to be addressed to the Chief Justice of India and to be submitted in the Secretariat of the Committee [Room No. 115, B-Block, Additional Building Complex,• Supreme Court of India, New Delhi-110001 (Ph: 011-23116337)] latest by 4.30 p.m. on Monday, March 21, 2022.
