On March 08, 2022, the Central Government has made the Foreigners (Amendment) Order, 2022 to amend the Foreigners Order, 1948.
Key points:
- In the Foreigners Order, 1948, the following paragraph shall be inserted:
“3B Requirement of holding a valid passport or other valid travel document while living in India.– Save as otherwise provided in terms of this Order or rule 4 of the Passport (Entry into India) Rules, 1950, a foreigner shall hold a valid passport or other valid travel document relating to passport, as the case may be, while living in India.
Explanation.- For the purpose of this paragraph, “other valid travel document” includes emergency certificate or certificate of identity or such other document which has been issued by or under the authority of the Government of a foreign country satisfying the conditions specified in the Passport (Entry into India) Rules, 1950 as made under the Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920”.
- In the said Order, the following paragraph shall be inserted:
“17. Reports or application or information to be submitted in electronic form.- (1) Any report or application or information under this order, shall be submitted to the Registration Officer or the civil authority, as the case may be, through the electronic mode.
(2) On receipt of report or application or information, as the case may be, the Registration Officer or the civil authority shall verify genuineness of the report or application or information and, he may, if considered necessary, call upon the applicant or the informant for personal appearance of the applicant or informant for the purpose of this paragraph”.
