National Law University, Tripura is gearing up for starting its operations soon and will be the 26th National Law University in the country. On the recommendation of the Chancellor of the National Law University, Tripura under Section 26(2) of the National Law University (The Tripura Act, 2022), the State Government of Tripura, in the exercise of powers under Section 26(l) of the said Act, has appointed Prof. (Dr.) Yogesh Pratap Singh as the Vice-Chancellor of the National Law University, Tripura. Prof. Yogesh Pratap Singh will be the founding Vice-Chancellor of the National Law University, Tripura. At present, Prof. Singh is serving as the full Professor and Registrar In-charge of the National Law University Odisha. He has been the founding faculty of NLU Odisha and has also served as the Vice-Chancellor In-charge of NLUO Change from September 28, 2020 to March 20, 2021.
A three member Search Committee comprising of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Subhashish Talpatra, Judge, High Court of Orissa; Prof. (Dr.) Faizan Mustafa, Former Vice-Chancellor, NALSAR, Hyderabad and NLU Odisha and Secretary, Higher Education Department, Government of Tripura conducted the interviews for the position of the Vice-Chancellor for the National Law University Tripura vide advertisement dated June 8, 2022.
Yogesh Pratap Singh received his LL.M. from National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore and LL.B. from the University of Allahabad. His book entitled “Judicial Dissent and Indian Supreme Court: Enriching Constitutional Discourse” was published by Thomson Reuters. Hon’ble Justice Dr. D.Y. Chandrachud, Judge, Supreme Court of India authored a scholastic foreword for the book and it was released by the Hon’ble Mr. Justice A. K. Sikri, Former Judge, Supreme Court of India. Prof. Singh has also served as the Deputy Registrar, Research in the Supreme Court of India (on deputation) from May 2016 to October 2018. His other recently published works include- Edited Book (co-authored with Dr. Afroz Alam) “Institutional Decline in Neo-Liberal Regime: A Note From India” published by Thomson Reuters; Edited Book (co-authored with Mr. Salman Khurshid and Dr. Lokendra Malik) “The Supreme Court and the Constitution” published by Wolter Kluwer Publications; Edited Book (co-authored) “Tribal Justice: Seventy Years of Working of Indian Constitution” published by Eastern Book Company Lucknow; Edited Book (co-authored) “Animal and Environmental Jurisprudence: Wildlife Perspective” published by Satyam Law International Publishers and Edited and Revised Book (co-authored) “Kumar Kartikeya’s Article 12” published by Eastern Book Company Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Prof. Singh has presented numerous papers on constitutional, social and legal issues at various national and international seminars. He constantly writes in the field of law in reputed law chronicles, national and international law journals. Dr. Singh also writes for the general public, contributing recurrently to The New Indian Express, The Statesman, The Tribune, Deccan Herald, The Wire etc.
