The Government Law College, Mumbai is pleased to announce the Twenty Ninth Edition of the 29th M. C. Chagla Memorial Government Law College National Moot Court Competition, 2022.

 

ABOUT THE ORGANISERS:

Government Law College, Mumbai in association with the Chief Justice M. C. Chagla Memorial Trust is pleased to announce the 29th M. C. Chagla Memorial Government Law College National Moot Court Competition to be held on 24th September and 9th October 2022.

The Moot Court Association of Government Law College has been hosting the M. C. Chagla Memorial Moot Court Competition for several years. It began as a city-level Moot Court Competition, which was later expanded to a state-level competition. Due to the overwhelming response that we have been receiving, the Competition, since its 18th edition, has been raised to a national platform.

The Late Mr. M. C. Chagla was appointed as the First Indian Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court. He also served as the Ambassador to USA, Mexico, Cuba, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bombay, High Commissioner to England and Union Minister for Education.

Chief Justice M. C. Chagla also served as a Professor of Constitutional Law at the Government Law College for a number of years. He worked tirelessly for the causes of civil liberty, individual freedom and political democracy and this Moot Court Competition promises to be a fitting tribute to his legacy.

Please find enclosed the Moot Proposition, Rules, and Tentative Schedule for the 29th M. C. Chagla Memorial Government Law College National Moot Court Competition, 2022.

The last date for Registration is 12th August, 2022. FORMAT OF THE MOOT:

Maximum of 16 teams shall participate and the registrations shall be accepted on first-come first-serve basis. The competition will be conducted in a hybrid mode. The Prelim and Quarter Final rounds will be held online on 24th September, 2022 and the Semifinals and Finals will be held offline on 9th October, 2022 in Mumbai. There shall be prizes for the Winning Team, Runner up Team, Best Speaker and Best Memorial.

 

ABOUT THE MOOT PROBLEM:

This year, the Moot Proposition shall be based primarily on Constitutional Law with certain aspects of Common Law.

THE MOOT SCHEDULE:

Last date for registration for the competition: 12th August,2022
Last date for clarifications: 20th August, 2022.
Last date of submission of soft copies of Memorials: 2nd September, 2022. Last date of submission of hard copies of Memorials: 1st October, 2022.

Preliminary and Quarter-final Rounds (Online): 24th September, 2022. Semi-final and Final Rounds (Offline): 9th October, 2022.

REGISTRATION:

All the teams shall provisionally register by sending a mail to mcchagla.glc@gmail.com. Only after the provisional registration has been confirmed will a link to a Google Form and details for the payments of registration fees be provided.

The payment of registration fees will be through NEFT in the amount of Rs. 2000/- (Rupees Two Thousand Only) the details of which will be provided once the provisional registration has been confirmed.

ELIGIBILITY:

All students of any recognized law colleges of the country can participate. Each team shall comprise of three students- two speakers and one researcher.
