Department of Political Science
Political Science is an integral part of the social sciences and had emerged as a separate academic discipline in the second half of the 19th century. Of course, the study of political philosophy and statecraft had been prevalent for thousands of years, beginning with the first written records. It is closely related with Law, important legal concepts and constitutional principles originate in political philosophy. At RGNUL, Punjab, Political Science is taught by two faculty members: Ms. Aditi Dubey and Mr. Saurav Kumar. Teaching at RGNUL is carried out with a multidisciplinary approach and this further enables the students of law to understand the interface between Law and Political Science. The Department of Political Science is very active in organising various seminars, conferences and workshops, in collaboration with different centres of the university.

What is Cognoscenti?
You enter a well-lit hall, and lo and behold! You have all the profound thinkers, luminaries shining through the ages in the firmament of political thought, sitting around a table, presenting their theories and deliberating upon them! Sounds like a futuristic, fantastic scene from a movie. Doesn't it? This is exactly what we are trying to present before you in COGNOSCENTI: A Discourse on the idea of ‘Liberty & Justice in Contemporary Times'. By making the participants engage in enthrallingly interactive role playing, our objective is the critical analysis of the origin and development of various ideas of liberty and justice through their right historical contexts.
The beginning of political consciousness is of paramount importance in the first- year law students. This November 16, RGNUL, Patiala will provide a platform for structured, informed political discourse, intellectually stimulating and visually appealing.
Participants, in teams of three, will represent the ideology of the thinker they wish to portray, of which one team member will be portraying the thinker themselves, while the others will be representing their school of thought. This will be done through immaculately designed costumes and hoodies, and accurate demeanour. This intersection of political thought, morality and law is aimed to establish and mature interdisciplinary thought processes among prospective lawyers in a fun and entertaining manner. The idea of having thinkers from different time periods, debating and engaging in discussions over their ideas is something which has never been conceptualised before. This event would provide a platform for exploring the evolving ideas of justice and liberty in the contemporary times.
