About Colloquium:
The intersection of law, politics and technology is going to force a lot of good thinking- Bill gates
Technology has changed every aspect of our lives and the judicial system too has not been left untouched. As per a recent report by National Judicial Data Grid, around 4.7 crore cases are pending across India. Artificial Intelligence can help reduce the severe backlog Indian judiciary suffers from. Virtual reality could provide a live experience of the courtroom, enabling the young minds to have a firsthand experience of being a prosecutor, defence counsel, judge and witness at the same time on one platform. Fintech has ensured that even the smallest of transactions gets digitally recorded thus ensuring transparency and electronic evidences. However, there are certain challenges that technology brings. With the advent of technology and AI the world has witnessed serious human rights violation. Without regulation or accountability, technology increasingly intrudes individual’s life and personal liberty. From fostering discrimination to engaging in intrusive surveillance, technology has proven to be a threat to equal protection, economic rights, and fundamental liberties. Through this colloquium, we at Maharashtra National Law University, Mumbai in association with Aegis School of Data Science and Cyber Security, Mumbai strive to enable a discourse that invites perspectives from multitudes so that a comprehensive way forward can prevail. We take this opportunity to provide a platform for the intellectual discourse about the possible challenges in the area of Law and Technology and to explore suggestions to overcome these problems. Our ultimate endeavor is to make the colloquium a means of prospective research and policy making.
