MoRTH revises provisions on fire protection of Type III Buses vide Central Motor Vehicles (Fourth Amendment) Rules, 2023

On 1-5-2023, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways notified the Central Motor Vehicles (Fourth Amendment) Rules, 2023 to amend the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. The provisions came into force on 1-5-2023.

Key Points:

  1. Rule 125-C relating to the Body Building and Approval talks about the testing and approval for body building of new models of buses with seating capacity of 13 or more passengers excluding driver that should be in accordance with AIS:052 (Revision 1)-2008.

  2. The provision of AIS-135 will now be applicable to Type III buses that are specified in AIS-052 (Rev.1) which will be manufactured on and after 1-10-2023.

  3. The provisions on fire protection in the occupant compartment of AIS-135 will be applicable to school buses which will be manufactured on or after 1-10-2023.
